Current Position: 1st.
This season a new divison was formed to include most of Massachusetts' NCAA Division III Ice hockey teams, called the MASCAC. We went into this season considered to be about middle of the pack. Entering the season with just 3 seniors, and 5 juniors, we were a team full of youth. At the pre-season coaches poll , we were ranked 4th out of 7 teams in our division. Since this is a new division, there is no automatic bid into Nationals for the winner. In order to proceed to Nationals, you must be awarded a bid. Fighting against all odds is the norm for us, here at Fitchburg.
Starting in January, we pulled away from mediocrity with a 10-game winning streak. This bolted us up into 1st place, although it is still a tight race. This winning streak ended recently after a 4-2 loss to rivals Salem State. We hope that we get to see those guys again in the playoffs for some redemption. Although we sit in first place, no one gives us any respect.
With just 4 games left in our short college season, we seem to be destined for greatness. We are in a race to win our division, as well as get a bid into the National Tournament.
